Pastor Randy’s Word for the Week ~ 3/12/2018
Sunday: Everybody seemed pretty wide-awake Sunday after losing an hour of sleep. Yes, it was a very nice service for the 424 worshipers who lifted up the name of the Lord. It was great to see Sarah Timbers baptized at the beginning of the second service, to say nothing of the great group of college students we commissioned at the end of the second service as they prepare to leave tomorrow at 2:30 a.m. for Haiti. As for most Sundays at Grover, the Lord’s Day didn’t end at noon as multiple activities and ministries continued throughout the day including deacon family get-to-togethers, funeral visitations, baby showers, and Life University.
We concluded our Week of Prayer for North American Missions yesterday, but we will continue to promote and receive gifts to our Annie Armstrong Offering fund through April 1st. To date we have received $2,313.00 toward our goal of $4000.00. One hundred percent of the monies received for this offering goes to missions here in North America.
Memory Monday will meet today at 2:30 p.m. in The Park. It is always a great time of receiving help with school homework, playing games, memorizing Scripture, and sharing a great snack and time of fellowship with the other students. Please encourage your youth in grades 6-12 to come join the fun.
New “Selfie” Church Directory: We continue to update our church directory and we would love to have you be a part. Whether you are a member of our church or one of our visitors, we would like you to participate. Please submit an email to email@example.com with your latest contact information and a “Selfie” picture of you and/or your family. We will be distributing hard copies of the directory in April to all of those who participate.
Easter Extravaganza: In just two weeks from this coming Saturday we will be having the City Wide Easter Egg Hunt here at the church on March 31st at 10:00 a.m. It is always a great time of testimony to our community as we share this time with them, and also proclaim the true meaning of Easter to the children of Warrensburg. Plan now to attend by wearing your Grover Park T-Shirt. If you do not have one, they are available in the office foyer.
Easter Sunday: Easter this year is on April 1st which is just two weeks from this Sunday. With more people participating in Sunday School than ever before, we have been having more over-crowding in our parking lots. We would like to ask some of our members on Easter morning to consider parking at the Community Center to allow more parking for our many visitors that Sunday. When people visit us and cannot find a parking place, they tend to become discouraged and just leave. We could all help out a great deal by some of us parking “remote” if that is a possibility this one Sunday. Thank you so much for your flexibility.
March Women’s Retreat: This Saturday on March 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. our ladies will be going to Milestones Barn (3 miles north of Warrensburg) for a special One Day Retreat. The cost is $25.00 which includes a mini breakfast and light lunch. The theme is: “Beauty Is In the Eye of the Beholder.” It is not too late for you to sign up. We have about 60 women attending.
Wednesday Supper/Winter Bible Study: This Wednesday night we will be having our Wednesday night supper and service. Supper begins at 5:30 p.m., which is being prepared by Margaret Wittman, and we will be continuing our Winter Bible Study in First Peter at 6:15 p.m. The testimony this Wednesday night will be shared by Katherine Garneau. She and her husband Brandon are both members of the military. They will be leaving soon for a new assignment in Italy. Katherine serves in many capacities in our church including being a deacon’s wife. She also works with our youth and has served in other areas such as Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, Preschool, Nursery, and women’s ministry. Wednesday Night Live (WNL) will begin at 6:15 p.m. in the Children’s Center. The youth will be having their Huddle Groups from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. in The Park.
Prayer Updates: Pray for Tammy Greer who is having surgery today, March 12th, at Centerpoint Hospital. Please pray for the family of Brian Badger (Brenda Brooks, Amber Cram, Sujamanas Badger) whose funeral is today at 10:00 a.m. in Pleasant Hill, MO. It was good to see so many of our members supporting them yesterday at the visitation. Please pray for Josh Robinson who is struggling with severe colitis. Continue to pray for Gene Thompson as he is doing much better. Feel free to visit them anytime. Pray for Linda Hargenrader as she continues her chemotherapy every three weeks. Her next evaluation will be coming up on March 27th, so pray that she gets another good report. Continue to pray that she sleeps better. Please be in prayer for Mike Streicher whose brain surgery has been rescheduled now for March 28th at Research Hospital for “essential tremors.” We are thankful that Shelly Cantwell did well with her cataract surgery last Wednesday. Please continue to pray for Violet Schonberner who had a slight stroke several weeks ago. She is back home with her son. Pray for Mark Watts’ father who is still recovering from a broken hip and femur in Belton. Pray for Bonnie Bullard who has pneumonia. She is at home. Pray for Joyce Hagerman who is having tests. Please pray for Shelly Snead’s grandaughter, Karli Foster, who will be having a biopsy on her thyroid on March 29th at 9:00 a.m. at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Pray for Hal Hanrahan who will be having a biopsy done on March 14th. Pray for Sherry Collin’s mother who is recovering from hip surgery. Pray for Charlotte Davis who will be having a checkup at Saint Luke’s Hospital soon. Our Deacon of the week is Rick Huse (660) 864-9091.
This Sunday we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Food Pantry.
Faith Riders: This Thursday on March 15th our motorcycle ministry will have their first meeting of the year as we meet at TJ’s Mexican Restaurant in Knob Noster on Hwy 50 at 6:00 p.m. Since the weather is going to be a little cool, we will just meet at TJ’s instead of the church. We had over 30 people attend our Pathfinders meeting last week. Our Faith Riders will have a difficult time topping that!
Help Needed: We are in need of volunteers for several areas of ministry: Sound room, nursery/preschool, children, and a bus ministry assistant. Call the church office if you could help us out (660) 747-7196.
Building Fund Update: We continue to receive weekly gifts and contributions to our Building Fund for paying off our Worship Center. Last Sunday we received $1958.00. Praise God for His generous grace and for the people who follow His will. To date we have now received a total of $738,517.51 to the campaign. For some of you who are new to our church, we welcome you to become a part of this great ministry. We praise God for His continued blessing upon on our church financially and in every other way.
Annual Pastor’s Conference: We will be hosting the Annual Associational Pastor’s Conference on March 22nd from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. This conference is open to anyone who would like to attend. Call the church office for more information.
Congratulations: Our hats go off to Dr. Dennis Docheff who is a professor of Physical Education at UCM and one of our deacons. He has been chosen as the recipient of the 2018 Byler Distinguished Faculty Award. A reception will be held in his honor on April 19th in room 240 of the Union at UCM from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Way to go Dennis!!!
Have a great week,
