Pastor Randy’s Word for the Week ~ 5/22/2017

Greetings,

Sunday was a beautiful day which led to a beautiful service of praise to our Lord. Our series through the Book of Revelation is moving right along, and this Sunday we will be looking at Rev 3:7-13. It was great to have Sharon Lillard come forward in the second service to join the church on the confession of her faith in Christ for baptism. Next Sunday we will be baptizing Joel Korman

Last Memory Monday meets today at 2:30 p.m. in The Park for the final session this spring. This ministry is always a great time of receiving help with school homework, playing games, memorizing Scripture, sharing a great snack and time of fellowship with the other students. What a semester of valuable instruction and fellowship!

The Journey will be meeting tonight at 6:00 p.m. to head over to Rhonda McKee’s house for or a great meal and a discussion as they begin a new series in the Book of Psalms. Specifically, they will be looking at “Psalms of Lament” from Ps 3 & 5. Pastor Brent will be teaching the study.

Attention Sunday School Workers and Leaders: This Tuesday night on May 23rd there will be a Life Workshop at 6:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center for all of our workers in Sunday School. Pastor Brent has a number of exciting things to share with our workers. We will have a special breakout session for our Nursery and Preschool Workers.

Wednesday Night: This Wednesday night we will be having our regular Wednesday night supper at 5:30 p.m., and Marty Stump, one of our newer members who served as a pastor of Magnolia Baptist Church in Holden from 2008-2015, will be leading a study from Ephesians 2:1-10. I am really looking forward to hearing him for the first time. Next Wednesday night on May 31st, the Wilbanks family will be sharing with us a report of their most recent mission work in England. As always, Wednesday Night Live (WNL) will begin at 6:15 p.m. in the Children’s Center, and the youth will meet in their Huddle Groups from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. Next Wednesday night, May 31st, will be our last Wednesday night supper and service until August as we take our usual summer break.

Prayer Updates: Please pray for Trent and Sandy Blair’s son, Ambrose, who was taken yesterday to Children’s Mercy and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Pray for Amy Espy as she is in WMMC today to be induced into labor. Pray for Alice Gayler as she recovers from surgery today and this week at Saint Luke’s on the Plaza. She had a mass removed from the outside of her lung. Please pray for Ginger Doerflinger as she is going to Menorah Hospital today for surgery at 4:30 p.m. as they seek to remove an infection from her recent hip surgery. Please remember Matt and Faith Barker in the loss of their stepfather, Jim Hutchison. Please continue to pray for Christian Edwards who has been transferred to Kindred Rehabilitation Center. Pray for Violet Schonberner who is in WMMC from a fall last week. Please pray for Thomas Doerflinger as he has had a stent placed in his artery at KU Medical Center. He has been diagnosed with tadayasa aeritis (inflammation of the large arteries), he is now recovering at home. Scott Williams stepfather, who was diagnosed with a staph infection, is doing fine now. Pray for Judy Jett who may be having radiation treatments again. Pray for Erma Brines who is having issues with her elbow. Pray for Roger Best as he has a routine scan coming up this Wednesday. Our Deacon of the week is Dennis Scherer (660) 909-2881.

Help Needed: We need your help in serving the Lord in our Preschool Ministry. We have two open positions at 9:00 a.m. in the 4’s and 5’s class, and we need one volunteer at 10:30 a.m. in the 2’s and 3’s class, and two volunteers in the 4’s and 5’s class. People who volunteer will serve in three month intervals for which you will receive orientation and training. Call or text Pastor Brent at (660) 909-2699 for more information. We do have substitutes for all of our volunteers when anyone has to be away.

Important Ministry Team Meeting: On Wednesday night, May 31st, we will be having our main planning session for Freedom Spectacular. It is important that everyone be there so that we can get everything planned for July 4th.

Special Memorial Day Service: On May 28th we will be having a special Memorial Day Service as we honor our veterans and our loved ones who have gone to be with the Lord. We will have a special presentation of the Flag along with a “quiet moment” of remembering our loved ones during the playing of Taps. The church office will be closed on Monday, May 29, for Memorial Day.

Have a great week,

Pastor Randy
